In conformity with your letter No. 1669 dated 30th.
September last. I beg to forward the following answers to the
charges made against me.
I.
Although the Officers as stated were warmed to
atten for two hours extra duty for the purpose of sorting receipts
More than the half of these Officers had more pressing duties
to attend to during that two hours and owing to the aversion
the most of the Officers had to dealing with these receipts.
They gladly availed themselves of every opportunity to evade
this receipt work. Then again on all mail days (i.e. not only
arrivals but departure all the Officers had their extra hours
fully filled up in dealing with the mail. On account of the
above it will be seen that little of the two hours extra time
was really devoted to this work.
